We thought we knew our dragons, but we hadn’t come across the Nidhogg dragon before!
Apparently, it has Viking origins which can explain the design. Dragons, in Celtic and Viking lore, were frequently depicted as serpents. If you look closely at the dragon’s tail, you can see how this has been beautifully incorporated into the design.
The dragon is made from lead-free pewter and measures 5cm x 3cm. A 20 inch silvery chain is included.
This very magical pendant is packaged in a black jewellery box. Inside the lid an explanation reads:-
“Nidhogg the Viking serpent of immortality thrives in the dark underworld of Niflhelm. This pendant is reputed to bestow upon the wearer the ability to restore difficulties to SURVIVE AND TRIUMPH THROUGH TROUBLED TIMES”.
We never need an excuse to buy anything dragony. Knowing the symbolic meaning behind the image makes it even more interesting.
